Lahaina is one of Hawaii’s most historic towns and is certainly worth a visit. Here is my sample itinerary for Lahaina. Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids age of 10 and 12) found plenty of wonderful activities that kept us busy through the entire day. Feel free to adapt to your own needs:)
6.30am Fast morning snacks and drive to Lahaina
8.00 – 10.30am Surfing lesson at Launiupoko beach. I’ll do a separate post on best beginning/intermediate surfing places and surf schools on Maui. For beginners I recommend early morning surf lessons as it usually means less crowd and steady surf.If you’re not a fan of surfing, another option for this time of day will be a snorkel/whale-dolphin watching boat tour that departs from Lahaina harbor. If that’s what you prefer, try to schedule an early tour. This will allow you to explore the Lahaina afterwards.
11.00- 12.30pm After 2 hours of surfing lesson, you’ll be exhausted and very hungry;) Next stop will be brunch or lunch depending on what time your lesson started. My recommendation will be to walk towards the Wharf Cinema Center Shops. It’s a home to a variety of shops and restaurants built around an open-air courtyard with a koi pond and a tropical garden. My family personal favorites are Down the Hatch and Breakwall Shave Ice restaurants there.
1.00 -2.30pm. If you’ve chosen a surfing lesson experience in the morning, consider doing a short boat trip after the lunch. The Lahaina Harbor is just across the street. Atlantis Submarine Adventure or Reefdancer Semi-Sub Boat cruise depart from there almost every hour (till 3pm) for an observation of spectacular marine world. To book boat/submarine tours please visit https://lahainaharbor.com
2.30-5.00pm Complete the Lahaina Historic Walking Tour and explore the town. As I mentioned before, Lahaina is a town with a lot of history. Lahaina Restoration Foundation created a self guided historic trail around Lahaina. To complete the trail you’ll need around 1.30 hours. To download the self-guided app and map or to book a museum tour go to: https://lahainarestoration.org/lahaina-historic-trail/If you’re already feel a little bit tired and overwhelmed, don’t be afraid and skip some of historic sites. You can always return to Lahaina to explore more:) Open the map provided in the app and visit the historic sites surrounding the Lahaina Banyan Park, home of the largest Banyan tree in the United States. No one stops you from exploring various souvenir shops along the Front st. while looking for the next historic site:)))
5.15 – 8.15pm Old Lahaina Luau. This can be the perfect end of a perfect day. Old Lahaina Luau is considered the best luau on Maui. If you haven’t been to any luau before, it’s a unique experience you won’t regret. Book way in advance: https://oldlahainaluau.com/
5.30- 7pm If you don’t feel for Luau, choose one of the restaurants in Lahaina for a perfect dinner. Many of them will have live music and perfect atmosphere to complete your perfect day. Kimo’s, Fleetwood, Paia Fish Market, Lahaina Grill, Waikiki Brewing Company and many many more restaurants await you in Lahaina. Some of these restaurants may be very busy (especially during the high season) so I recommend booking in advance via https://www.opentable.com/
8.00pm Arrive at Tranquil Turtle Retreat and sleep like a baby. At least my family did after the whole day trip to Lahaina
